OUR MENTORS

We match founders with high calibre mentors that help to facilitate learning and provide a confidential sounding board as they navigate their current business challenges. Our Mentors have all been vetted by our community and are eager to give back and foster the development of a world leading fintech ecosystem.

Andrew spent over 25yrs in banking at some of the world's largest financial institutions. At HSBC, he was the transaction banking global head of e-commerce strategy & innovation and then the global fintech lead. He understands the challenges of pursuing innovation and connecting external partners into large, complex orgs. As an independent expert resource, Andrew now works with a variety of commercial and government clients and he is also a Stone & Chalk Ambassador.

Bram is an inspiring and motivating director. He is versatile, creative and data-driven with extensive CX, HCD and technical knowledge gained from building digital teams for more than 15 years. Bram has managed large digital and CRM teams and runs digital channels for top tier companies, dramatically improving team engagement and inspiring people to perform at their best.

Chris is a seasoned entrepreneur with experience launching, raising capital, scaling and exiting ventures in global markets (USA, Australia, Europe, and some experience in China). He is the founder of start-up community initiatives in USA (Colorado) and Australia, including Spark Festival. Chris has mentored 70+ founders/companies. His specialties are: Going global, capital, product.

Duncan was a former university professor keen to make a difference through commercialisation of R&D. He left academia to be CEO of a start-up, securing licensing/product supply agreements with major globals, acquired a US and EU subsidiary and listed on the ASX. Duncan now heads up commercialisation and IP for a rural development corporation and can help startups with anything from business strategy all the way through to capital raising and M&A.

Gareth offers insight, creativity and pragmatism to start-ups and corporates, drawing on a unique mix of experience in venture capital, business strategy, data analytics and executive coaching. After a decade in consulting, he co-founded 2 pioneering venture funds spanning Australia, Silicon Valley and China. He coaches extensively in financial services and teaches at AGSM and Sydney University.

Geoff's background is in commercialising great ideas/products, creating the 'go to market' and business models that will win, scale and sustain in the market. His career has spanned across insurance, superannuation and wealth management. Geoff has the relevant experience and knowledge to help founders tackle the next big challenge of taking the product to market and scaling to the market opportunities.

Jason is a technology enthusiast, developer and admirer of simple and elegant designs. He is passionate about leading technical teams and helping them grow and scale by getting structures in place that support the people in the business to also grow as individuals. Jason can help startups work at the intersection of the commercial and technical sides of the business to ensure exponential growth.

Jennifer is a strategic connector of people, ideas and opportunities. She has been described as a "human API" who accelerates engagement with commercial partners and investors. At the core of her skillset is a broad and deep understanding of strategy, finance, risk, capital raising and communications. Jennifer advises and invests in early-stage fintechs and other start-ups. She has also worked inside a fintech (as an interim finance director for S&C alumni, Brighte).

Jonathan is a Business Leader, Company Advisor and Non-Executive Director with over 20 years’ experience in scaling and transforming organisations to maximise performance. Leveraging proven success in start-up and SMB business ownership, Jonathan is known for his pragmatic approach, taking businesses ‘back to basics’ prior to change to achieve sustainable and profitable growth.

Larissa is an adaptable, optimistic and confident executive level digital professional, with 18 years of experience. Her core purpose is making a positive impact on customers’ lives through a Human-Centric Design approach to problems. She has successfully established and grown design teams within large scale, multi-channel, Agile, delivery teams.

Mark has a rare mix of corporate, consulting and start-up experience over 25 years in Australia and the UK. He was a PwC Consulting Partner before leading business transformations across insurance, banking and travel. Mark is also the co-founder and Chair of a food start up, and advisor to a range of businesses. He thrives working with passionate teams, helping accelerate their growth and success.

Matthew is a growth-stage expert with hands-on experience in developing a fintech enterprise. He works with founders on achieving product/market fit and building revenue-generating channel partnerships. Matthew is a Stone & Chalk alumni, experienced in scaling a startup from growth to maturity. He draws on corporate experience in the financial services, consulting and professional services fields.

Melanie is a leadership specialist with 13 years of experience and qualified across several key leadership development methodologies. She coaches/mentors/facilitates senior executives and their teams and drives leadership change through organisations. Prior to this, she was a banker specialising across all industries, funding major projects, leveraged buyouts, corporate acquisitions etc.

Mike is an experienced financial services digital strategy and delivery executive who has spent the past 5 years working in wealth management. He is an expert on all things customer centered design and agile/lean with a knack for using quantitative analysis and qualitative insights to inform decision making. Mike assists startups to improve their customer experience, whether it be acquiring new customers or deepening existing customer relationships through build measure learn principles.

Russel is a c-suite executive who prides himself on transforming strategy, building a more effective, competitive business, creating measurable shareholder value and leaving a sustainable legacy. He helps founders pave a vision of what is possible, and a strategy that is practical and pragmatic in execution. He is an insightful, adaptable and analytical business leader who makes an excellent sounding board for scaleup founders.

Steve was a wholesale banker for 35 years, has a deep understanding of domestic and cross border capital raising and building successful business’. He has worked in all aspects of capital and structured finance and in all the worlds major financial centres at some time. Steve has been an innovator in the Australian capital markets and is using those skills as a founder, advisor and mentor to work with companies who are looking to disrupt the status quo and make a difference.

Steve is a COO with 20+ years experience in transforming businesses across several geographies. In his corporate career, he has built Human Centred Design and Data & Analytics teams delivering substantial business benefits. Steve has led large scale transformations and worked with start-up businesses in the US, UK and Australia. He is currently the founder and CEO of a boutique consultancy advising Finanacial Services businesses.

Annabel is an experienced global financial services executive. She has been an investment banker in M&A and capital markets, a global strategist, run an investment portfolio and most recently led a scale financial services businesses. Annabel can help start-ups explore opportunities especially in wealth management, assist in the capital structuring and raising journey, and taking ideas global.

Chris has 30 years of software development experience, primarily in Insurance, Banking and Retail working across multi-nationals. Writing proposals, commercial models and presenting to clients gives great insights, whilst MBA studies developed a strategic business lens that has complemented the broad IT skills and given focus to improving customer experiences.

David has worked in large corporations, done his own start-ups and invested in numerous startups and thus has a very good understanding of the whole start-up infrastructure. He has a passion for the sector, has good contacts in Australia and Asia and is keen about working with passionate founders who are looking to change their industry. David can help get a start-up investor ready as well as help connect companies to potential partners, clients and investors.

Ean is a seasoned Digital leader with an extensive track record in driving growth and strategic change by understanding customers and applying digital technologies to deliver beautiful experiences in a connected world. Ean's key focus has been on bringing together product strategy, human centred design, and agile delivery in accelerating customer and business value, at speed and scale.

Gary is an experienced CEO with 25 years experience in developing products and commercialising them across several geographies. He has a knack for helping founders structure their thinking, enabling them to establish a clear go-to-market and sales strategy. He has been through the process of raising capital and preparing pitch decks many times over and can advise on managing investor relations. He is currently CEO of a fintech scaleup in the loyalty rewards space.

Graeme is an experienced C-suite global operations and financial services leader, now focused on helping businesses to transform and grow, fast and sustainably. He was a pioneer in early work in UK online card payments, and then built, launched and managed the first internet banking solution for Barclays PLC. He is also experienced in developing and managing large delivery teams globally.

Jeff is an investment banker with over 35 years’ experience advising clients in the finance, tech and private equity sectors – and an investor in a number of start-ups. This broad experience allows him to help startups with general commercial and legal challenges. Through his understanding of capital markets, Jeff can also assist founders to develop and present their strategy, vision and business plans in a way that meets investor needs.

John has 35+ yrs experience as a management consultant and business leader, including 24 yrs as Managing Partner at PwC and IBM. He has worked across all dimensions of banking including retail, business banking and capital markets. John is well placed to help founders navigate diverse challenges, whether it be finance related, business strategy, scaling a team, or expanding into EU, USA, APAC.

Karl is a growth-orientated, corporate entrepreneur with a proven track record of delivering outstanding business results, during a career spanning 25+ years in the Australian, Asian and European market places within the IT Industry. He held senior leadership roles in the fields of sales, strategy, planning and marketing, resulting in a track record of transforming businesses and igniting growth.

Manisha is a commercial and legal advisor and strategist in the tech, data and media sectors across Aus, NZ and Asia. As a 'commercial architect' she plans, designs and constructs commercial frameworks that minimise risk and bring together disruptive industry partners to drive innovative solutions. She can help startups think through their legals and refine their commercializing data strategy.

Mark is a futurist, inventor, writer, entrepreneur, educator and podcaster. He has co-invented early Web technologies including VRML and the first 3D web interface. Furthermore, he has worked in and founded a series of start-ups (Shiva Corp, Ono-Sendai, MooresCloud) as well as been an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the INCUBATE program. Mark also has a broad knowledge of hardware, fintech & blockchain and is thus a good connector who can plant seeds in relevant places.

Max is a senior commercial leader with 20 years’ experience in marketing strategy and operations. He is passionate about how technology is changing the financial services world, and an expert in digital transformation. He can advise startups on their international ‘go to market’ and business development, helping them build capabilities to scale up faster and cost-effectively.

Mike has 30 years general insurance experience in the UK and Australia, including most recently as CEO and Director of Calibre Commercial Insurance. At start-up insurer Calliden, he set up and had oversight of a number of joint ventures in a variety of niche insurance markets. He is both well regarded and well connected in the general insurance world and is currently consulting to Chubb Insurance on their digital SME strategy.

Oliver has over 18 years in user experience and understanding of mobile, IoT and wearable technology to identify key issues for client business strategy and to recommend and create innovative design solutions. He has consulted to clients such as Commonwealth Bank, Optus, NRMA, Qantas, Atlassian, Westpac, and ABC. He also consults to a range of start-ups and lectures Interaction Design at Sydney University.

Sandy was an early employee of Yammer during a period of hyper growth. He then became co-founder of a UK based enterprise SAAS startup with VC backing, deploying in orgs like Microsoft & PWC. He knows too well how it feels to be on a rollercoaster of sorrow with an odd peak of elation. His expertise lies within sales and go-to-market with an emphasis on product market fit. He wants to help founders take a step back from the daily complexities to focus on the core value proposition.

Steve has deep commercial expertise in strategy and biz dev with publicly listed companies, in a range of industries and across geographies. He presents extensively to boards and senior mgmt and knows what they look for. Steve also has hands on M&A experience from deal conception to due diligence and post-merger implementation, and can assist startups through their capital raising journey.
